Zakopane is considering the introduction of a clean transport zone, as was the case in Warsaw and Krakow. This initiative aims to reduce congestion and improve air quality, especially during periods with advanced tourist traffic.
The town under the Tatras has been struggling with the problem of intense traffic for years, especially in tourist seasons, which causes immense traffic jams and negatively affects the environment. The clean transport region is 1 of the ideas that have emerged any time ago as a solution to this problem.
Similar solutions were successfully introduced in another Polish cities, which contributed to reducing exhaust emissions and improving air quality. Of course, in the case of Zakopane, specified actions can be a key step towards environmental protection in the mountain region.

Jolanta Sitarz-Wójcicka of the Podhale Smog Alert emphasizes that the introduction of a clean transport region in Zakopane is necessary. In her opinion, it is not only a question of ecology, but besides of the comfort of surviving of the inhabitants, especially during periods of intense tourist traffic. It points to an example of the town of Zermatt, Switzerland, where cars do not have access to the centre, which can be an inspiration for Zakopane.
Residents besides believe that control over the inflow of cars, especially those with diesel engines, or even the introduction of zones restricted entry is key. The Vice president of the Podhale Foundation in Zielono, Władysław Bedkowski, emphasizes that the problem of traffic jams and air contamination during the tourist period remains unresolved.
Helena Bunda of the Tatra Development, Promotion and Culture Agency points out that although the smog wind may somewhat mitigate the effects of the smog, the number of older, more polluting vehicles, specified as old buses, is inactive large. For this reason, he draws attention to the request to consider the region of clean transport not only in Kraków, but besides in Zakopane, as the winter capital of Poland.
These voices from Zakopane clearly item the urgent request to take action to control and reduce the impact of vehicles on air contamination and traffic difficulties, especially during periods of intense tourist traffic. The thought of a clean transport region gains support as a way of improving the quality of life of residents and visitors.
