Constellation frigates are to replace the failed Littorial Combat Ships (LCS). alternatively of their fancied concept, the Pentagon decided to choose a ready-made, best solution “off the shelf” and its mass construction after prior redesign for American needs. And it is precisely in this redesign that the current problem lies. Selected Italian FREMM frigates, created jointly by France and Italy, were ordered from the Italian concern Fincantieri. So far, 4 (USS “Constallaion”, USS “Congress”, USS “Chesapeake” and USS “Lafayette”) have been ordered out of 30 planned ships, with construction of the first scheduled to begin later last year. But then it turned out that the Americanized Fremm task was “80 percent ready.” It is not ready present either and the main task of the program for the full year 2024 is... to close the project.
