This is 1 of the hottest topics in Poland in fresh days. Prison for speeding – this is simply a phrase that appears almost everywhere. However, let us carefully examine the government's bill and see what is truly going on. Without empty phrases and expressions that have no cover in reality. So what are the changes, and did any media not blow up a simple substance again?

Prison for speeding – fact or myth?
Let's start at the beginning. It's about print 1451. We can find it at this minute on the Polish website Parliament, in the tab Legislative process and then, Conduct of the legislative process. You gotta pull down a bit – print no 1451 – Government bill amending any laws to improve road safety – he entered the Sejm 3 July. In the following weeks, the task was read 3 times. It was worked on in committees, amendments were tabled until last November 7 Act amending certain laws to improve road safety was passed.
photo. wirestock / freepik.comThe draft was adopted at number 84 on 7 November 2025 at 6:28 p.m. Representatives of the presently ruling coalition voted in favour of the adoption of the project, and against, among others, the Law and Justice and the Confederation. advanced penalties for taking part in “illegal races” or “drift” are in fact a bust. For in the case of subsequent points, any drivers can eat hair on their head.
Road Pirates Bat
New provisions They presume that speeding will be a threat... prison. It's about driving like that. grossly violating road safety rulesor life-threatening or health-threatening. Speech of exceeding velocity by at least half the limit value on motorways and expressways. Sounds rather complicated, but the regulation is simple. If a velocity limit of 140 km/h on the highway, the velocity from which the driver will be facing jail is 210 km/h. If the limit on the express road is 120 km/h, the limit value will be 180 km/h.
photo. wirestock / freepik.comFor another public road with a limitation of 90 km/h, the limit is besides 180 km/h, i.e. double. The rules will besides cover the built-up area. We're talking about jail time here. 3 months to 5 years. Under the fresh regulations, seizures will now not only affect drunk drivers. Even if individual is sober, but has a judicial ban on driving, they will lose their car. I have already mentioned participants in alleged "illegal races" or those who play "drift" on the roads. They will be punished much more harshly than before. The alleged "spots" provisions are besides changing. If the number of vehicles exceeds 10, specified a event will should be reported in advance.
Prison is simply a punishment?
Of course, the specified fact that the Sejm passed these regulations does not mean anything yet. Let us remember that at the end of the legislative process is President. For a fresh law to actually come into force, The president must sign the bill and this must then be in the diary of Laws. Since then, within 30 days, regulations have entered into force. Looking at Mr President's activity in the last fewer months, the bill does not gotta wait to sign. This is absolutely not a definite issue and as well as the rules can go to the basket. Let us repeat again – that the Sejm passed this bill, It means nothing without the President's signature.
On the another hand, there is simply a moral issue here. Is prison a fine for speeding? individual might say that's not an exaggeration. But is it besides much to drive at 180 km/h on the expressway, or 210 km/h on the highway? It's not like someone's gonna go 10 or 20 miles an hour. You can’t miss it and drive on the road at 210 km/h instead.
Is that it?
I am personally tired of this "I drive fast but safe" nonsense. It's a dream, it's an effort to justify that you can't follow the rules and drive at your own discretion. There is no specified thing as fast but safe – choose one. There's no excuse for individual driving on a 220 km/h road or a 200 km/h expressway. Okay, 99.5% of the time he's gone. What can drive like that lead to? It is not essential to look for examples – in fresh years we have all seen them besides much.
photo. topntp26 / freepik.comSo what's the large deal? Why do any have specified a problem with regulations that are designed to tempt people who are grossly speeding and putting another road users in danger? There's no excuse. Just – you can't decision at specified speeds on the road. In a sense, this outrage reminds me of what happened during a clear tightening of regulations against drivers who are driving under the influence of alcohol. There may be doubts about the dimension of individual penalties. In principle, there are certain behaviours of drivers, which should simply be branded at any cost – for our common good. And I personally include both driving under the influence of alcohol and gross speeding.
