President Volodymyr Zelenski confirmed the information about the temporary cessation of fighting in Ukraine on the occasion of Orthodox Easter. It is to apply from 11 April from the afternoon (16:00 Moscow time, 15:00 in Poland) until the end of 12 April. Russia announced a truce on Thursday evening.

We proposed a ceasefire at this year's Easter holiday, and we will act in accordance with this – told Zelenski on social media.

The president of Ukraine added that Easter should run peacefully, and Russia has the chance not to return to armed action even after it has been completed.

Volodymyr Zelenski had already signaled his readiness to take specified a step – in late March he pointed out that a possible vacation truce could not take place at the expense of the dignity or sovereignty of the country.

The work lies with Zelenski?

On the another hand, the spokesperson for Kremlin, Dmitri Pieskov, stated that work for advancement towards peace lies with Zelenski. In his opinion, the president of Ukraine's erstwhile statements did not make a clear proposal for a truce.

Last year's truce
