From next period in the UK, single-sex couples will be allowed to compete in national ice dance competitions and championships. This is simply a decision of the British Ice Skating federation, which, like Canada and Finland, decided to change the rules.
The amendment concerns national competition only. Internationally, there are inactive ISU regulations requiring a woman-man duet.
The modification of the rules was supported by well-known figures of the planet of skating – among others, the medalist of the MŚ Kaitlyn Weaver and the Madison Hubbell and Gabriella Papadakis, who presented single-sex duets at the shows.
On the another hand, Canadian three-time champion Scott Moir appealed that the anticipation of riding in single-sex duets was an chance for... skaters. They are to deal with the chronic deficiency of male partners.
