During its gathering on 18 March 2026. The Wieliczka Councillors celebrated a minute of silence of the victim of the mediate East war, and especially the tragedy in the Iranian school in the town of Minab, where 170 girls were killed.
Below is the content of a speech by Councilman Bartholomew Krzych before a minute of silence.
"Dear Mr and Mrs and Mrs, we are usually talking about local issues, due to the fact that that is the function of self-government, but as Wieliczka – the historical UNESCO city, hosting people of different cultures, we should besides look at the planet and take care of the peace that is the foundation of tourism.
Everyone has heard of the war in Iran, but not everyone knows about the tragedy that has been done, unfortunately, by our allies. On February 28, a rocket attack by surprise, in the first hr of the war destroyed a school in the town of Minab. 170 innocent girls died. It's like abruptly our school in Grabiu, the Rings or Janowice disappeared, along with all the students. No war against the government justifies killing children. alternatively of liberating women, girls were massacred.
I would not have addressed this subject if this tragedy had not been ignored by our government and the media. As Poles, we were besides victims of war. Then, over 1 100 1000 Poles, including thousands of orphans, were kindly accepted by the Iranian Nation. They care about Polish cemeteries. That's why they deserve our attention.
As representatives of Wieliczka, the historical salt city in the heart of Europe, let us stand up for humanity and peace. If Madam president does not mind, let us emergence up and celebrate a minute of silence of the victim of this tragedy at the school in Minab and all civilians dying in the mediate East."
After these words, with the agreement of the president of the Council, all present at the Hall (about 50 people) were raised in silence.
