What's next on the 800 plus program? In April 2016, it will be 10 years since the benefit was introduced in its first installment – then inactive as 500 plus. In little than a decade, there have been further voices that the programme should be eliminated and replaced, for example by taxation relief for workers. More governments, however, alternatively of withdrawing 500 plus, expanded them. First the PiS for the first kid and then the present coalition (but besides on the initiative of the PiS) – up to PLN 800. To date, the provision has been granted to each parent or guardian of the kid if he has completed appropriate formalities, but there may be changes. The fresh proposal for 800 plus was tabled by Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamish.
During the celebration of the 130th anniversary of the folk movement, the head of PSL Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz referred in his speech to the problem of children in Poland. He stressed that our country is presently in a demographic crisis, but "the best money in social programmes will not help."
Right after that, he proposed to amend the 800 plus program. According to Kosiniak-Kamish, only those working should receive a benefit.
"The appreciation of work, people working hard, paying taxes, should be a strategy for us, for Poland, for the Polish government number one. keep social support for those who request it, but 800 plus only for those working," stressed the president of the Polish People's Party.
In April 2026 it will be 10 years since the 500 plus programme was introduced
The "Family 500 plus" programme was introduced in 2016 at the initiative of the then ruling Law and Justice. The benefit of PLN 500 per period was initially paid for the second and subsequent child. In 2019, the program was besides extended to the first child. Since then, the programme has cost the state budget around PLN 40 billion per year.
Prior to the parliamentary elections, the Law and Justice reported an initiative to value the benefits up to PLN 800 per month, and thus the introduction of 800 plus. With support, among others, of the Civic Coalition, the program in the fresh installment launched in January 2024. Last year the state allocated PLN 800 plus PLN 64 billion. This year it will be about PLN 63 billion.
