After many months of uncertainty and stagnation in the credit market, borrowers in Poland can yet breathe relief. WIBOR rates, which have a direct impact on the interest rate on variable-rate loans, begin to drop rapidly. Only since the beginning of April 2025, the WIBOR 3M index decreased from 5.85% to below 5.5%. specified movement in the marketplace means a crucial relief for thousands of Poles paying off mortgage loans. In the beginning of April 2025, after the press conference of the president of the National Bank of Poland Adam Glapiński, the marketplace began to see signs of a possible "golf return" in monetary policy. president Glapiński, who has held a position on interest rates in the last months, amazed the marketplace by the fact that there is area for interest rates reductions. As a consequence of this change, the Monetary Policy Council has become increasingly inclined towards decisions on ft cuts. Although inactive in early April, many analysts felt there was no area for change in the close future, the marketplace began to adapt rapidly to the fresh situation from the first week of that month.
How does WIBOR fall?
The fall of WIBOR is already visible, with immediate effect on mortgages. WIBOR 3M, which was inactive 5.85% in March, is now below 5.5%. specified a drastic change means that borrowers who hold variable-rate loans are starting to benefit from reductions this month.
- WIBOR 6M from 5.75% fell to 5.17%, which means a fall in debt interest rates. In the case of a debt amounting to PLN 500 thousand, repaid over 30 years, a simplification in the WIBOR rate of 0.58 percent points translates into a simplification of the instalment by PLN 234 A month.
- If this trend continues, experts forecast a further fall in WIBOR, and according to forecasts in 9 months, WIBOR 3M can only be 3.64%, which means a fall by 2,21 percent points compared to the beginning of April. This script may lead to a simplification in monthly debt instalments by PLN 738.
