This is the case with Sky Bridge 721. The suspension bridge was built in the Czech Republic, in Masywa Sněžnik, close Poland. It's 721 meters long. It was commissioned in May 2022 and is the longest bridge of its kind in the world. It leads over the valley of Mlýnský brook, from 1 mountain ridge to another. It is 95 m above the valley.
Sky Bridge 721 is not just a bridge. It is besides a unique educational way of the “Time Bridge”. Sky Bridge 721 was built in the heart of mountains and spruce forests. The location is not surprising. On the another hand, any doubts may arise about the location of the pedestrian suspension bridge, which was built in Hungary in early June. The investment was not created in a well-known and popular tourist region, but in the 16 1000 Sátoraljaújhely in the north of the country. The town in which it is located has quite a few tourist aspirations. The National Unity Bridge, as it was named, is 700 m long, six carrier ropes and, as the Hungarian media claim, is the longest specified construction in Europe! Although the Czech Sky Bridge is 21 m shorter, The Hungarians are convinced that they are the ones to be given priority. And they argue that their glass level bridge has the longest distance between pillars.
Barrel on the bridge
The bridge connecting the 2 hills opened with a pump characteristic of Orbánowskie Hungary. During the inauguration ceremony, the Hungarian Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén and Sátoraljaújhely Deputy Mayor Dénes Dankó of the ruling Fidesz organization rolled a large barrel across the bridge. During the ceremony, the Deputy Prime Minister recognized the bridge as a “great symbol of national unity”, referring to the Day of Memory of the Treaty of Trianon. It's a sad date in Hungarian history. Under the treaty ending planet War I, Hungary lost 2 thirds of its territory and half its population to its neighbours. The bridge cost Hungary about EUR 10 million. In Budapest, they proudly stress that no EU funds have been used.
Willingen is simply a quiet mountain town in German Hesse. For years only skiers were known through ski jumping and skiing. Since last year Willingen has besides been associated with another attraction – Skywalk Willingen. It is simply a modern suspension pedestrian bridge 664 m long. At the highest point, it is suspended 100 m above the ground. The bridge is unique due to the fact that the views of the mighty ski jumps and wooded valley are besides unique. The hanging bridge in Willingen in an interior German ranking "beats" measuring the 458 m Titan RT bridge in the Harz Mountains.
A planet of jealousy in Europe
It may surprise that pedestrian bridges in the Alps, mountains that warrant breathtaking views, are shorter. The longest specified construction in the Alps, but inactive clearly shorter than Czech or Hungarian, is Charles Kounen in Randa, Switzerland. The bridge is 494 m. On the another hand, Titlis Cliff Walk in Engelberg, besides in Switzerland, rises as advanced as 500 m above the valley!
Portugal besides joined the unwritten competition for the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in 2021. The Arouca bridge in the Aveiro region is 516 m long and 175 m at its highest point. It connects 2 rocky hills on the Pariva River.
What about outside Europe? There are no bridges in the planet present with specified distances between bays as in the case of construction in the Czech Republic or Hungary. However, it is worth mentioning the Dodhara Chandani bridge built in 2005 in Nepal. It was formed on the Mahakali River in Kanchanpur. It's 1452 meters long and... 5 feet wide. However, it is supported by respective bays (the largest distance between them is 225 m), which importantly diminishes its architectural and touristic value. The bridge connects Nepal to the Indian border. The passage takes more than half an hour, due to the fact that in respective places due to the archiness of the footbridges you gotta go uphill.
