These inconspicuous chips are the foundation of modern electronics. As the K+Research survey conducted in cooperation with TRUMPF Huettinger shows, 6 out of 10 Poles declare that they know what semiconductors are. However, almost 30% of respondents say that they do not usage equipment equipped with this technology, and that, among those aged 18-24, the percent reaches 40%.
Semiconductors drive the improvement of smartphones, cars, household appliances or advanced industrial machines. Their key function in the economy is highlighted by the European Commission's forecast that the value of the semiconductor manufacture will scope $1 trillion by 2030. In Poland, the sector is seen as 1 of 3 in which it is worth investing – alongside cybersecurity and artificial intelligence – which indicated over 37% of respondents.
– Semiconductors are now the silent hero of modern industry. Without the chips, it is not possible to produce advanced electronics, both in everyday use, like smartphones or cars, but besides in modern machines, which play a key function in many production plants. Their importance was clearly observed in the automotive manufacture during the pandemic – due to their shortage many factories were faced with many problems and delays in production, and these were felt for final customers. Moreover, it is advanced semiconductor systems that let the dynamic improvement of artificial intelligence systems, which change the face of many industries – explains Rafał Bugyi, president of TRUMPF Hüttinger GmbH.
The study, conducted in March 2025 on a example of 1,000 adult Poles, reveals an expanding interest in this sector. The Ministry of Digital Planning plans to increase the number of semiconductor specialists by 20% by 2030 and launch 5 vocational retraining programmes by 2028. Poland, with companies specified as TRUMPF Huettinger employing 1.5 1000 people, has the chance to play an crucial function in the global improvement of this technology.
