Szijarto besides added that the position of the fresh White home administration "cannot be ignored".
‘EU no contingency plan’
The message came after the Hungarian Prime Minister's advisor Orban announced that after the inauguration of Donald Trump a "new situation" had been created. According to him, this means that the extension of sanctions should not be automatic.
EU Ambassadors will shortly discuss whether they can support renewal of sanctions against Russia. According to the EU's anonymous diplomats with whom Bloomberg spoke, there is no contingency plan in case Hungary blocks the extension of the restrictions.
The European Union renews existing sanctions against Russia all 6 months, requiring the votes of all 27 block states. The next decision is due to be made at the end of January.
“The EU should decide whether to support the extension of European sanctions in late January following consultation with the administration of future US president Donald Trump,” said Hungary.
