"Men, let's number the votes"
One of the politicians who actively participated in the overthrow of the government of Jan Olszewski was the current Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Then a young politician, creator and head of the Liberal-Democratic Congress, a organization that won 37 seats in the Sejm and 6 in the legislature in the 1991 election.
He was the author of the celebrated words “Lords, let's number the votes” during the events “night shift” erstwhile a block was constructed that could pass the appeal of Prime Minister Olszewski. By his decision, he spoke against Poland, indeed independent and sovereign, which he tried to build a patriotic camp.

That's why my government was the first to exposure the past, secret ties of people who voluntarily entered the organs of fresh power in fresh years. I believe that the Polish people should have the feeling that among those who regulation them, there are no people who helped the UB and the SB keep Poles enslaved. I believe that erstwhile collaborators of the communist political police may be a threat to the safety of free Poland. - I'm sorry. In these words, Jan Olszewski summed up his work as Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland on 4 June 1992, although he served for only a fewer months - since 27 October 1991.
It took 3 years since the apparent triumph in the partially democratic elections of 1989, so that the efforts to further decommunise the country were blocked, and it was by those on whose shoulders was the work for the full freedom of many Poles.
No average state can tolerate in its authorities, in its parliament, in its structures people who were agents in fact abroad peculiar services. (Applause) And no translations, no phrasing of the interest of the state that fell here, will repeal that fact. (Applause) - said Jarosław Kaczyński in the debate preceding the cancellation of the government of Jan Olszewski.
Certainly not the economical situation, not the economical policy caused the attack on this government. There is no uncertainty about it.We, the advanced Chamber, have always been behind the government of a broad coalition, but if colleagues from the Liberal-Democratic Congress, from the Democratic Union thought that this coalition was expected to halt the process of rebuilding or, here, I will usage the word you disliked, decommunising Poland, it was a misunderstanding, a large misunderstanding. We never understood this coalition that way.
We did not realize it so due to the fact that the process of decommunisation is great, and 1 can say constantly increasing, the request of this country as well as another post-communist countries. This is simply a process that can be co-organised by this House, which this home can co-decide about, but it is besides a process that society will decide first and foremost; the society that is watching us here; the society that will decide that - although we know who we are dealing with, and we know that different measures, including alleged administrative measures, can be utilized to halt this process. He's already started - in these last fewer months, or possibly especially in the last fewer days. (Applause) - continued the future Prime Minister.
... Now it's not worth talking about due to the fact that that's not what this is all about, due to the fact that that's not why you're having a deep debate at night to cancel the government immediately, just so he's gone before the next day starts. Not due to the fact that he was angry due to the fact that he couldn't cope with the economy, not due to the fact that he had a bad political line, not due to the fact that he didn't have an information policy, which was very much talked about, what he could and is simply a blade of truth. And not for a 100 another reasons that could be given here and would most likely be cited if the discussion were going on in average time, in average mode and in average way, just for a completely different reason. origin lying in fact outside this government. - said Prime Minister Jan Olszewski on a memorable evening from the Parliamentary Speaker.
When I included my functions - and earlier, many times earlier, many months, possibly years - I knew that we would build a fresh strategy of democratic power in Poland, a fresh system, a new, third, our Polish Republic in a situation where We will be burdened by the terrible decline left by this area, this sector of the communist regime, which was its essence, and its essence was the apparatus of violence, the apparatus of police violence, the apparatus of political police. And how that camera worked, and what his operating rules were, barely anyone in this area knows as well as I do. I could watch it for years, defending people through this camera being chased. Many of them are in this area today. I knew how tragic cases, fates, facts can be. No 1 knows it better than I do, but no 1 knows better than me how terrible this inheritance is, how vast, how great, how terrible it can have consequences for the destiny of the individuals involved. And erstwhile these individuals are active in directing public life - as in the conditions in which we act - how tragic this can have consequences for the interests of the public no longer, for the national interest. I said this many times in 1990, 1991, in the civilian movement, moving for Parliament. When I talked about decommunization, erstwhile I argued with the large line theory, I always remembered the problem. And erstwhile I became Prime Minister, I knew my government had to face him. I took any assumptions, knowing how crucial this problem is, how hard it is and how tragic it is for many people, so I was looking for the best way out. In specified matters, in my opinion, you should not rush. But I was wrong, I was wrong. There are situations erstwhile you gotta hurry. - continued the Prime Minister.
I have given instructions to the management of the Home Affairs Ministry to prepare an act that will allow, by specifying any time, as painlessly as possible, as humanely to retreat from public life to people burdened with this tragic, tragic decline in the past, without exposing anyone to the general public, with all the principles of humanitarianism, while preserving at the same time in those cases where personal, personal, individual or individual decision of the curious parties would not or would not be sufficient, the anticipation of creating a real, nonsubjective examination of the substance of the body and procedures which would have made specified a final settlement closing that hard time and beginning the anticipation of average action in public life of the 3rd Republic. This did not happen, although the work on it was, as I was informed, advanced.
It was here in this area that the motion was made to oblige the Home Office to present, as he said, the list of agents. And it was here in this area that he was passed. present in this area I received a paper that was delivered to the parliamentary clubs and made available to Members and Senators. He got to me at the same time, an hr later than you, for reasons, as usual, of any method retardation. I read it after the morning session. Yeah, it's a shock reading. And I know, now I know why all this is happening here I have no right to be amazed (a hold in the room) due to the fact that this reading was shocking, I think, not only for me.
...Public service is not a pleasance to be prepared for. I was ready, and that's not gonna get me off balance. If I say present that I am not submitting at this moment, even though I have these experiences of the last months, and especially weeks warmly enough, yet I declare that I do not quit my resignation (Applause) and with full awareness I place before you Members this task, that, according to my conscience, you vote in favour of canceling or against canceling this government, I do so in the belief that from present on, there is something another than the question which the government will be doing in Poland until the end of the year, that there is something more in the game, that there is simply a image of Poland - which it is to be. Why not, whose is she?
There is Poland, it was Poland for forty years, due to the fact that it was Poland - it was owned by a group, owned by possibly a lease alternatively by individual given. Then, in the name of right, we agreed to a certain transitional state, a compromise, that this Poland will be ours for a while, and not entirely ours. And it seemed that time was over. It ended then, it should have ended erstwhile we gained power from democratic, truly democratic choice. And present I see that not everything is over, that there is inactive a lot going on, and that whose Poland will be must be decided. It'll work out too. (Applause) To any extent, in any part of this area today.
Revealed by Minister Antoni Macierewicz - as a consequence of the earlier resolution adopted by the parliament - the list of agents and communist collaborators were the reason for the cancellation of the government of Jan Olszewski. After the night conference, at the night session of the Polish Parliament, this government was replaced by Waldemar Pawlak's cabinet. The decommunisation of Poland has not occurred until today, until present we are carrying on tired backs A terrible fall in the communist regime.
For tonight - cities celebrating the appearance of freedom with the current government - we urge to view the paper entitled "Night Change" - Jack Kurski and Michał Balcerzak - it consists of authentic recordings from the night erstwhile dreams of freedom died. ed. pers.org.pl
