During a press gathering in a United States mission to the United Nations, Wright appealed to president Trump's position, which demanded the cessation of Russian energy natural materials, gas and oil, to Europe.
They buy natural gas transported by pipelines, but the remainder of Europe continues to import large amounts of LNG. All of this should be replaced by American LNG or gas supplies from another sources. I think it will. – he said.
We'll wait.
Wright pointed out that the European Commission had drawn up a plan to decision distant from Russian energy sources, but it would take almost 2 years to implement. – We would like it to happen faster – for peace reasons He stressed. He added that the United States does not have a problem uncovering outlets for its gas, but the sooner Russian supplies can be replaced, the stronger the force can be exerted on president Putin.
Wright pointed out that not only Russian oil is delivered to Europe via the relationship pipeline to Hungary and Slovakia, but besides fuels and petroleum products from refineries in India. He pointed out that although India is not forced to import natural materials from Russia, they choose them due to a lower price, thus contributing to the backing of the Russian war. As he stressed, India has de facto agreed to compromise: savings in exchange for turning a blind eye to the fact that it supports president Putin's actions. The United States expects Delhi to get oil from another sources – virtually from all country outside Russia.
Wright added that Washington's intention is not to punish India, but to end the war and make common relations.
Russian natural materials and sanctions
The European Union is gradually reducing imports of Russian gas and oil, although there are inactive countries that import these natural materials, circumventing sanctions. In 2023, gas imports from Russia fell to 43 billion m3, while oil inactive mainly reaches Hungary and Slovakia.
Despite restrictions, Russian natural materials can inactive enter the Union marketplace through circumvention mechanisms – example is oil from Kazakhstan, sold as Kazakh, even though it actually came from Russia. In order to reduce Moscow's influence for the war in Ukraine, the EU introduced a price limit on Russian oil.
The European Union assumes a complete departure from Russian LNG imports until 2027.
