I find it hard to realize the attitude of many members of the European Union who are seeking to proceed the war between Russia and Ukraine. Many of them are opponents of killing carp, keeping the dog chained up, and many another acts related to animal cruelty. They don't have moral brakes to kill each another fighting soldiers or innocent civilians. It is not clear to me what political or economical interest the EU is moving that it is willing to proceed to finance Ukraine, knowing that it is impossible to win this war and that its continuation can lead to an even greater tragedy on the European continent.
What has the EU gained from a three-year conflict? Nothing. However, she lost much economically. Just compare the economical growth of individual countries before the conflict and now. In many countries they win or are at the forefront of right-wing formations which any call pro-Russian or even fascist. If this conflict does not end with peace, the economical and political crisis will only deepen.
European governments are not satisfied with the change of president in the US. To put it simply, they don't like Trump. His decisions are at least controversial in many areas, both economical and military. Despite commitments, many NATO associate States have failed to deliver at least 2% of GDP on armaments, hoping the Americans would defend them. Now they gotta make up for it, the problem is that, it takes at least a fewer years to accomplish combat capabilities and be able to argue Russia. For now, Europe is susceptible and inactive at the mercy and disfavor of Trump.
The president of the United States wants the war to end rapidly in Ukraine. The European Union is discussing another package of sanctions and the continuation of financial and military assistance to Ukraine. Europe continues, who will win?
The EU, on the 1 hand, helps Ukraine and, on the another hand, finances Russia. "Since the outbreak of the war in 2022, we have purchased Russian fossil fuels(...) for an amount equal to the cost of 2400 F-35 fighters (...) So we gotta get free of the dependence on Russian fuel" said Dan Jorgensen, EU Energy Commissioner. The cost of 1 F-35 aircraft is about $88 million. Europeans, France, Germany and others cannot halt buying Russian fossil fuels due to the fact that they would gotta mine more themselves and this is against the Green Deal policy.
The EU is opposed to ending a conflict that mostly finances the fighting parties.
