The past of the San Francisco Opera dates back over a 100 years and the Wainer repertoire has always occupied an crucial place there. But the Parsifal waited there for its premiere until 1950. In the new, visually awesome staging of this work directed by Matthew Ozawa, the title character looks like a samurai and Obi-Wan Kenobi in one. However, this does not change the fact that it is simply a very conventional staging.
