Foreign workers came from over 150 countries. The largest group were Ukrainians; their share in the number of foreigners doing work was around 73 percent. The second place included Belarusians with 10.1%. The remainder were citizens from Muslim countries, with 135,602 work permits issued in 2022. Visitors from many countries have easier access to the labour marketplace in Poland. The citizens of Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine may legally work on the basis of the employer's declaration of entrustment of work without the request to be authorised by the State. Furthermore, for Ukrainian citizens and their spouses, a simpler legalisation of employment was introduced if they arrived in Poland from 24 February 2022.
According to the State economical Institute, in 2018 Poland was the largest labour marketplace among OECD countries hosting temporary workers from another countries. In 2020, despite the coronavirus pandemic, there was an increase in the number of foreigners employed in Poland. The study noted that in terms of the number of temporary economical migrants, we have overtaken the United States and Germany.
