I think everyone here is arrogant that Limanova has specified barracks and specified a unit – said Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on Saturday during the beginning of the K-8844 barracks complex. “To everyone who has contributed to their creation, thank you warmly”, added the head of the MON. In the delegated army, soldiers of the 114th WOT Light Infantry Battalion are stationed.
The ceremony, which took place on 29 March, was the culmination of a two-year investment process, and at the same time a formal act of handing the complex over to the Armed Forces of Poland. In addition to the Minister of National Defence, he took part in it, among others. General Krzysztof Stańczyk, WOT Commander, parliamentarians and representatives of regional and local government.
During the event 114th Battalion was given the name of Colonel Adam Stabrawy "Borowy", and it was formally recognised that the unit inherits the traditions of the 1st firearm Regiment of the Podhale Home Army. Since then, “a 100 and fourteen” has officially worn the discrimination “Limanowski”. The name - given ceremony was attended by relatives of “Borov”.
An army dedicated barracks facility is located on an area of 2 hectares. “Here, where the wind utilized to be, now we have modern barracks,” stressed Marcin Siudziński, the commander of 11 The Malopolska Territorial Defence Brigade, which includes the Limanian Battalion. The barracks-office building has over 8,000 sqm, part of the complex is simply a garage for 40 vehicles (about 1,700 sqm) and parking lots with an area of 2,900 sqm. K-8844 by day will be a “house” and a place of service for 500 soldiers.
Kosary in Limanowa was built by LimWOT peculiar intent company, established by the local government of the city of Limanowa, with the participation of debt financing granted by the Polish improvement Fund SA. The investment was a pilot task of cooperation between public entities – self-government, Treasury and PFR SA. The model was intended to finance the construction by a self-government company from a debt granted by the fund managed by PFR SA, which would then be repaid by the State Treasury, including the accident of MON.
The repayment agreement has already been signed and amounts to PLN 103 million. The military's bailout of the barracks will take 5 to 10 years (such repayment period is provided for in the contract).
Construction of the complex on the street. 2 began in October 2023, but the first ideas and accessories on how to carry out the investment appeared 2 years earlier. They were followed by then mayor of Limanowa Władysław Bieda. Mariusz Błaszczak signed the letter of intent on the part of the MON – as emphasized by his successor.
– This investment is not only a symbol of the continuity of local authorities, but besides a symbol of the continuity of the Polish state – said Deputy Prime Minister Kosiak-Kamysz. The head of the MON pointed out that both the barracks and the early establishment of the Lebanese unit would not have happened if the local community had not been involved.
Jolanta Yuszkiewicz, the current mayor of the city, besides spoke about this, thanking her predecessor. “The communicative is simply a circle,” said Juszkiewicz, referring to events from May 1939. This is where the Limanov National Defence Battalion was formed. WOT is simply a natural continuation of the tradition of ON units, and from now on our battalion has its own place. All good for you – the mayor wished the soldiers.
The information provided during the ceremony by Deputy Prime Minister Kosiak-Kamish shows that in the footsteps of Limanowa they intend to follow the local governments in Gorzów Wielkopolski and Włocławek.
