Soon, however, this is to change – a full fresh metro is to be created in Krakow. According to the plan, it will service 300,000 passengers a day.
Kraków has long aspired to have its own metro thread. According to the latest plans of the authorities of the capital of Małopolska, there are to be 2 lines – M1 and M2 – with a full dimension of 29 kilometres. Metro will connect fresh Huta to confederate districts. The lines are to run towards Opatkowice and Kurdwanowa and connect in the city center.
The metro will be another component of Kraków's fast transport, which now consists of trams and agglomeration railway. After putting both strands into service, the strategy is expected to scope more than 60% of the inhabitants of Krakow, with 40% surviving within 10 minutes of the nearest metro station.
But that is not all. From the experience gained from the war in Ukraine, we know that the metro can execute not only its basic function of passenger transport. In Kiev the metro strategy is successfully utilized as a substitute for shelter. In the assumptions of Kraków the metro is to be built so that it can besides act as a shelter if necessary. The authorities of the capital of Małopolska besides believe that the metro in their city will be at the same time more flexible and cheaper in operation than in Warsaw.
