HANOI- Vietnam Airlines (VN) has announced significant international route expansions, reinforcing its global presence in 2025. The carrier will resume the Hanoi-Moscow, Russia service after a three-year hiatus, introduce a new route to Beijing Daxing International Airport, and launch direct flights to Denpasar, Bali.

These moves highlight Vietnam Airlines’ commitment to enhancing connectivity, boosting tourism, and fostering economic ties.

With new and reinstated routes, Vietnam Airlines is expanding its reach to key global markets. These developments are expected to facilitate tourism, trade, and cultural exchanges, strengthening Vietnam’s role as a growing aviation hub.

Vietnam Airlines Restart Moscow Flight

Vietnam Airlines (VN) will restart direct flights between Hanoi (HAN) and Moscow Sheremetyevo (SVO) on May 8, 2024, after suspending the route in March 2022 due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Initially, the airline will operate two weekly flights on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with plans to increase frequency to three weekly flights by July 2026.

Russia remains a crucial tourism market for Vietnam, with 220,000 passengers traveling between the two countries in 2024—more than double the 2023 figures but still just 26% of pre-pandemic levels recorded in 2019.

The restored Hanoi-Moscow connection is expected to aid the tourism sector’s recovery while facilitating trade and cultural relations.

Additionally, Vietnam Airlines aims to expand its international footprint by launching or resuming 15 routes to destinations including Italy, Russia, Denmark, China, India, Japan, South Korea, and the UAE.

These efforts align with its broader strategy to strengthen global connectivity and meet increasing travel demand.

Strengthening Links Between Vietnam and China

Starting March 30, 2025, Vietnam Airlines will launch a direct route from Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) to Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX), one of the world’s most advanced aviation hubs.

The new service will operate five times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays—utilizing Airbus A321 aircraft.

Additionally, the Hanoi (HAN)-Beijing (PKX) route will be upgraded to daily service to accommodate growing demand.

The direct connection offers greater travel flexibility, eliminating the need for layovers and reducing journey time between southern Vietnam and Beijing.

Daxing Airport’s efficient transport links allow travelers to reach downtown Beijing in just 40-50 minutes, enhancing passenger convenience.

With this expansion, Vietnam Airlines will operate six direct routes between Vietnam and China, increasing weekly flight frequencies to 40. This network growth is set to boost tourism and trade, further solidifying Vietnam Airlines’ position as the leading carrier between the two nations.

Direct Flights to Bali

Vietnam Airlines will also introduce direct flights between Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) and Denpasar Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), Bali, starting June 1, 2025.

Initially, the route will operate four times a week (Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays), increasing to daily service by July 2025. These flights will be conducted using Airbus A321 aircraft.

This marks Vietnam Airlines’ second direct route to Indonesia, bringing the total number of weekly flights between the two countries to 14.

The service is expected to enhance tourism growth, as Indonesia remains Southeast Asia’s largest travel market.

In 2024, passenger traffic between Vietnam and Indonesia reached 800,000, reflecting a 61% increase compared to 2019.

During the announcement, Vietnam Airlines signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Association of Indonesian Travel Agents (ASTINDO) to foster bilateral tourism cooperation.

This partnership aims to enhance two-way tourism promotion, develop collaborative marketing strategies, and strengthen Vietnam Airlines’ presence in the Indonesian market.

The launch of direct flights to Denpasar not only strengthens Vietnam’s tourism and trade ties with Indonesia but also reflects the country’s broader vision for expanding its global aviation network.
