Venezuelan authoritarianism in practice, or the function of SEBIN in maintaining the Maduro regime

According to the Gaceta Oficial de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela, SEBIN was created in 2010 as the successor to the Dirección de los Servicios de Inteligencia y Prevención (DISIP), dissolved by decision of president Hugo Chávez. The authoritative government communicative portrayed this change as a improvement to break with the repressive legacy of the erstwhile service.
