The erstwhile U.S. Navy Secretary John Phelan was recalled from this function immediately on Wednesday. The decision was made at a time erstwhile the Pentagon was in chaos about staff changes in key positions – British and American media reported on Thursday.
Phelan's cancellation was reported by defence Department spokesperson Sean Parnell in a message posted on platform X. However, he did not give details of that decision.
As the British paper "Financial Times" wrote, citing a origin acquainted with the case, between the U.S. civilian naval superior and the US defence minister Pete Hegsethem experienced tensions over the ship building program, as well as military nominations and promotions. CNN station service added that the Pentagon's chief was annoyed by Phelan's direct communication with U.S. president Donald Trump, omitting Hegseth.
