Florida politician Ron DeSantis reported on Thursday the closure of the detention centre for immigrants, known as the "aligator Alcatraz". Earlier, rumors of the closure of the controversial object circulated in the media.
– Alcatraz alligators fulfilled the function it was designed for," said Republican politician at a press conference on the site of this facility in Florida. He concluded that over 21,000 people were deported by the resort.
The politician expects a complete dismantling of the facility within a week or two. He reiterated that the detention centre was to be only temporary from the start.
Surrounded by wetlands full of alligators and pythons, the hotel was established last summertime at the erstwhile training airport. The detainees complained about hard contact with lawyers and very bad sanitary conditions.
