Five British Greenpeace activists were arrested after the biodegradable "blooded red" dye was poured into the pond in front of the US embassy in London, informed the organization on Thursday.They protested against US arms sales to Israel during the war in the Gaza Strip, added.
The group stated that 12 activists were transporting containers with inscription ‘Stop Arming Israel’ on bicycles with trailers masked as transportation bicycles.
They poured what they described as non-toxic dye into the pond to symbolize bloodshed in the Gaza Strip."The red dye highlights the death and demolition caused in the Gaza Strip as a direct consequence of the continued sale of arms, ammunition and military equipment by the US to Israel", claims a message on the organisation's website.Greenpeace co-director-in-chief Will McCallum was arrested on suspicion of a conspiracy to origin criminal damage, a crime threatened with punishment up to 10 years in prison, reports The Guardian.
The another 4 activists were reportedly detained on akin charges.Metropolitan police confirmed the arrests and explained that no safety circuits were breached during the protest.
"So far, 5 people have been arrested close for criminal harm and conspiracy to origin criminal damage" — informed.
"We have taken these measures due to the fact that US weapons proceed to fuel a defiling war" said The Guardian Areeba Hamid, co-executor of Greenpeace UK.
She cited the demolition of schools, hospitals and full districts in the Gaza Strip.
She added that"tens of thousands of Palestinian lives have been annihilated" and stressed that as the largest arms supplier to Israel, the US government "has large work for the terrible things that are happening."Greenpeace called on the governments of the United Kingdom and the United States to introduce a complete arms embargo for Israel.
The organization claims that US weapons contribute to civilian casualties in conflict with Hamas.
The protest was organised as part of a wider run highlighting the humanitarian impact of Israel's military operations in the Gaza Strip, which according to local authorities led to over 50,000 deaths.
Israel invaded the Gaza Strip after the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, in which about 1,200 people died.
