Ursula von der Leyen in Gdańsk – trade unionists announce demonstration

"Solidarity" announces a protest against European Union policy. The demonstration will take place on 7 February 2025 in Gdańsk, in front of the European Solidarity Centre. Ursula von der Leyen will then appear in Gdańsk. The reason for the mobilisation is opposition to EU policy, which, according to trade unionists, strikes manufacture and workers.

On 7 February 2025, president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen will arrive in Gdańsk. Her visit to the European Solidarity Centre will be an chance to discuss the future of Europe, but besides to express opposition to EU policy. NSZZ ‘Solidarity’ announced the demonstration from 11:00 to 15:00 before entering ECS.

Trade unions argue that the Green Deal leads to the collapse of industry, an increase in the cost of surviving and a weakening of the position of workers. In their view, the European Union's climate regulation is more loss-making than it is for the economy based on dense manufacture and coal energy.

Green Dealing a Threat to the Economy?

Green governance is an EU strategy to reduce CO2 emissions and energy transformation. According to the European Commission, long-term benefits will include environmental protection, the improvement of fresh technologies and the independency of Europe from fossil resources. However, critics believe that economical consequences can be disastrous.

‘Solidarity’ points out:

  • Risk of industrial closure and occupation losses.
  • Increase in energy prices and production costs.
  • Europe's dependence on technology outside the continent.

Mobilising patriotic organisations

NSZZ "Solidarity" calls on all patriotic communities and people aware of the threats arising from the Green Deal to participate in the protest. The trade unionists stress that the deficiency of consequence to current changes can lead to further weakening of the economy and the standard of surviving of Poles.

"Active attitude is not yet a warrant of success, but our passiveness will consequence in a disaster," the organizers emphasize.
