Despite many business concerns, mainly from Polish farmers, EU Agriculture Commissioner Christophe Hansen announcedthat the preferential trade arrangements with Ukraine will cease to apply after 5 June. This means returning to known before 24 February 2022, strict rules in trade, including food.

The Union will not extend trade privileges to Ukraine. After 5 June this year, simplified trade rules with Ukraine will cease to apply, introduced under the interim autonomous measures (ATM). The European Commission plans to return to the earlier conditions set out in the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. This information was confirmed by EU Agriculture Commissioner Christophe Hansen during the European legislature for agrarian Renewal and improvement held in Poznań at the Poznań global Fair.

Hansen explained that the fresh old regulations would include, among another things, a request to meet certain food production standards. “This is besides the way Ukraine has to go gradually to join the EU at any point in the future – He said.

The first information on the non-prolongation of autonomous trade measures (ATMs) for Ukraine already appeared in early April, although the various servants of the Ukrainian people powerfully lobbied for them to proceed to apply.

Interestingly, although the European Union will not extend trade preferences for Ukraine for food trade, on 8 May the European Parliament voted duty-free trade with Ukraine until 2029 for steel products. This decision will hit the Union steel producers who are in serious trouble, due to the absurd requirements of Green Deal and ETS.

OUR COMMENTS: If the trade regulations come back in 2014, our farmers will breathe relief, and the prices of agricultural produce in buying-in will normalize.
