The Union wants to build a "drone wall"

Today, the heads of defence of the east flank of the European Union and Commissioner Andrius Kubilius discussed how to fight alien drone intrusions. The solution is to be "dron wall". "It will be part of a multi-layered air defence that will defend all east EU flank countries," said the head of the MON Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz after the meeting.

– There is simply a very clear request to focus on drone and drone systems to safe the east flank of the European Union on the concept ‘drone wall’ “Today in Warsaw, the Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamish said after a video conference with the EU Defence and Space Commissioner Andrius Kubilius and the defence ministers of the NATO flank of east states bordering the Alliance: Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine.

The discussion on strengthening the European Union's air defence against the threat from unmanned aircraft was related to the last Intrusions of Russian unmanned workers into the airspace of Poland, among others or Estonia.

As the Deputy Prime Minister added, the concept presented by Commissioner Kubilius includes a strategy of fortifications on land, protection at sea but, above all, anti-drone measures to safe the east flank of the EU. According to the head of the MON, anti-drone and anti-missile defence requires cooperation due to the fact that it is the most costly of all weapons systems. – I am pleased with the support of this programme by all countries – he added and reminded that Poland was 1 of the first countries to bet on drone troops. He besides pointed out that the concept ‘The drone wall" is part of our Tarcza East program.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the "dron wall" must extend south of Europe to Bulgaria. "Therefore, my proposal that all the EU's east flanks participate in the programme proposed by Commissioner Kubilius" said the politician. As he stressed, the hybrid war continues and the threats from Russia will be experienced by all EU countries.

– We see all provocations, violations of airspace over east EU flank countries, which have taken place in Poland, Estonia, but besides over the Nordic countries, which is why strengthening engagement in the field of safety is an absolute necessity – the Minister of Defence stressed. He said that the mission is an example of specified actions ‘East Guard’ established by NATO after Russian drones breached Polish airspace.

Kosiniak-Kamysz pointed out that individual countries would invest in the programme their money, but they had to be complemented by EU funds. "I proposed that these should not only be loans, but besides grants, which should be a very crucial origin of complementary national capacity in this area," added the Deputy Prime Minister.

Commissioner Kubilius besides spoke about the results of the meeting. "European Union countries on the frontlines have reached an agreement on the request to make a "drone wall" with advanced detection, tracking and interception capabilities," he said in Helsinki. He besides stated that the "dron wall" was part of a larger venture called the east Flanka Guard. "It is intended to cover respective levels related to the safety of EU border countries, in addition to the alleged drone wall, these are besides terrestrial and maritime components," added the Commissioner.
