Ukraine has no strength to regain the territories lost to Russia, said Italian defence minister Guido Crosetto. He added that Moscow would in no case renounce these territories.
Crossetto addressed this issue in an interview with Bruno Vespa, published in a fresh book by a writer who will be released this week.
In an interview, Crosetto expressed the view that the situation on the ground did not leave Ukraine a viable way to regain its erstwhile regions.
"Recovery of territories lost in 2014 and after February 2022 is present considered impossible by all" – said Crosetto in an interview with Vespa, quoted by ANSA's press agency.
“Russia will never give them back, and Ukraine will never have the strength to recover them alone, even with our help” – he added.
Crosetto stressed that Moscow would not negociate the position of these areas as it is enshrined in the Russian Constitution.
Ukraine continues to declare its intention to regain control of the territories that presently belong to Russia. Crimea detached from Ukraine and joined Russia in 2014 after the West-supported coup in Kiev, which overturned then president Viktor Yanukovych and sparked a conflict in Donbasa.
