Ukrainian authorities ordered the evacuation of hundreds of families from the strategical area of the town of Kupansk in the east of the country. Oleh Syniehubow, politician of the Kharkov district, reported on Telegram that 409 families with 601 children had been forced to leave 27 towns.
The list of places for evacuation was later extended to 40 - reported another local authoritative in a conversation with the Suspilne tv station. The decision is simply a reaction to intense Russian attacks in the region.
Fighting for a strategical city
For months, Russian forces have been attacking and moving forward towards Kupańsk, seen as a key mark for the march west by central and east Ukraine. The city was initially occupied by Russian troops in early February 2022 during the invasion, but Ukrainian forces recaptured it in the same year.
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenski reported last week that Ukrainian forces defend key areas of front lines, including Kupańska. In fresh days he besides mentioned the Ukrainian counteroffensive close Dobropol, further south.
Russian claims of superiority
Vladimir Putin reported a fewer days ago that Moscow forces have a strategical advantage on all sections of the front lines. The war in Ukraine has already lasted more than 3.5 years since the Russian invasion began in February 2022.
