The European Commission is committed to amending the rules governing arms purchases in the associate States. Washington fears that the aim of these changes will be to gradually "pull by administrative means" US arms companies from the European market. In a public statement, the U.S. Department of defence threatened the EU with retortions if it put solutions in favour of military producers from the Old Continent.
