Despite the promises of subsequent governments, the subject remains unresolved, and all day of hold means real harm to rainbow families. The first attempts to introduce a law on partnerships in Poland date back to the early 2000s. 14 years ago, assuming the office of Prime Minister again, Donald Tusk first announced the introduction of specified a law. However, in the times of the regulation of law and justice, there was no chance of that promise being fulfilled. After the alleged Coalition came to power on October 15, 2023, the hope of change rose again, but laws or any form of legal designation of monogender unions inactive do not exist.
RECLAMA
Children in the shadow of the law
It is estimated that about 50,000 children are raised in the same sex union in Poland. Nevertheless, these families do not have access to legal protection for families where parents are heterosexual. "Two decades is far besides long. The introduction of a legal framework that ensures the safety, dignity and respect of same-sex couples and their families cannot be postponed to an eternal 'after'. all day of hold in this case is simply a real harm and a sense of large injustice they face. This besides affects their loved ones, friends, friends who do not want to wait any longer until something changes. Therefore, we give them the voice and make a space through which they will be able to express their opinion, and besides to tell what for those who love and care most about it means the establishment of the essential law" - comments Joanna Skoniecna, run Against Homophobia.
"All families are important!" campaign
In an open letter addressed to the Prime Minister and the coalition leaders of the ruling family, LGBT+'s relatives and allies call for immediate action. Patricia of Tarnobrzeg, parent of 1 of the run heroines, says: "Lilka, my daughter loves and is loved. For me as a mother, the crucial thing is that she's happy. It doesn't substance that she's surviving with a woman. This is simply a problem for our country that does not recognise my Lila's family. all day she lives with the fear that in the event of an accident or illness she will not be able to make an crucial decision and aid her partner in time and she will be able to aid her. Lilka and Julka plan a future together and want to get married, just like that. For most people, it's another phase in life, it's a formality, it's a dream for girls. They don't want to do it secretly, abroad. They wait until they can formalize their relation in Poland. And I want to be at this wedding, no substance what the bill allows. My mom, Lila's grandmother, who died a fewer years ago, unfortunately she didn't see this moment, and it hurts a lot. I don't want to repeat the script, I don't want to wait any longer. My kid doesn't deserve that."
Society supports formalisation of unions
Studies show that more than 6 out of 10 people in Poland (62%) support formalisation of partnerships and 50% advocate the right of same-sex couples to marry. "It is not only statistics, but a signal to the Prime Minister and leaders of the ruling coalitions to yet meet their promises and start to respect the will of their voters and the vast majority of Polish society" - says Hubert Sobecki of Love Do not exclude.
Partnerships were introduced in Western Europe decades ago. Today, many countries already have marital equality, which gives full legal protection to rainbow families. Poland is inactive falling behind and the deficiency of a bill means that LGBT+ people and their children live in uncertainty.
An Unfulfilled Promise
In the fall of 2024, the government presented a draft law on partnerships. The authoritative public consultation study showed that as many as 95% of the opinions sent were affirmative and considered partnerships to be a minimum protecting the same-sex couples. The current draft laws do not defend rainbow children, recognise rainbow families or supply basic dignity.
