Two Turkish Airlines US-Bound Flights Diverted to Oslo for Same Reason

OSLO- Flag carrier of Türkiye, Turkish Airlines (TK) flights bound to the United States (US) were forced to divert to Oslo Gardermoen Airport (OSL) on April 17, 2025.

Turkish Airlines currently operates flights to 14 cities in the US, and it plans to make it 20 in the coming years.

Turkish Airlines Flights Diverted

The flights involved in the diversion are Turkish Airlines TK1 between Istanbul and New York JFK and TK79 between Istanbul and San Francisco (SFO), reported HavaSosyalMedya.

Let’s start with TK1 and find out more about it. According to FlightRadar24 data, Turkish Airlines flight TK1 took off from Istanbul Airport (IST) at 11:45 UTC.

After being airborne for over three hours, the cabin crew reported that a passenger had fallen sick. Following this pilots decided to make a diversion to the nearest airport. At the time of the incident, the aircraft was flying between the Faroe Islands and Norway.

The flight operated by a Boeing 777-300ER, registered as TC-JJU, landed safely at OSL at 16:27 UTC.

The sick passenger received proper medical care. The flight took off again after staying two hours at OSL and reached New York four hours later than the actual scheduled time.

Second Diversion

Similarly, a second Turkish Airlines flight, TK79 from Istanbul to San Francisco, departing from Istanbul at 11:43 UTC, 2 minutes ahead of TK1, experienced the same situation.

After being airborne for over three hours and flying between Norway and the Faroe Islands, the cabin crew reported a medical emergency due to a sick passenger. Following this, the pilots decided to divert to OSL.

The flight operated with Airbus A350-900, registered as TC-LGT, landed safely at OSL at 16:38 UTC.

After being on the ground for two hours, the flight departed again and landed safely at San Francisco Airport at 3:56 UTC.
