FORT WORTH- Two American Airlines (AA) flights encountered severe turbulence midair, resulting in injuries to three flight attendants. Both incidents involved long-haul and domestic operations and concluded with safe landings at their respective destinations.
Turbulence events occurred on flights arriving at Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and Philadelphia (PHL), prompting official statements from the FAA and temporary ground time for the affected aircraft.

The first incident involved an American Airlines (AA) Boeing 777-200, registration N793AN, operating as Flight AA37 from Madrid Barajas (MAD) to Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW).
While cruising at FL380 near Memphis (MEM), the aircraft experienced severe turbulence, injuring two flight attendants.
Despite the turbulence, the aircraft continued safely to its destination, landing approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes later.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the occurrence, stating:
“Aircraft encountered severe turbulence injuring two flight attendants, Memphis, TN.”
Following the landing, the Boeing 777 remained grounded for about 20 hours before reentering service, according to a report by the Aviation Herald.

One flight attendant sustained injuries, but the aircraft proceeded to land in Philadelphia (PHL) without further issues.
The FAA similarly noted:
“Aircraft encountered severe turbulence injuring a flight attendant, Philadelphia, PA.”
This aircraft resumed operations after being on the ground for approximately 5.5 hours.
Both incidents have been logged by the FAA, which routinely tracks turbulence-related events involving crew or passenger injuries.

On November 15, 2024, American Airlines flight AA168 from Tokyo Haneda to New York JFK encountered severe turbulence that injured two flight attendants during the November 15, 2024, service.

Flight tracking information suggests the severe turbulence likely occurred near the United States coast, though the exact location remains unclear from available data. The timing and flight path analysis indicate the incident happened during the latter portion of the long-haul journey across the Pacific Ocean.
The aircraft involved in the turbulence incident operates as a seven-year-old Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner registered under tail number N833AA. American Airlines deployed this wide-body aircraft on the high-traffic Tokyo-New York route, which represents a key international service for the carrier.
The flight carried 279 passengers along with eight flight attendants and four flight crew members when the severe turbulence occurred. The incident affected two flight attendants among the total of 291 persons aboard the aircraft during the November 15 service.
