The fresh president of the Committee on Culture and Media, Bogdan Zdrojewski, announced plans for the abolition of the RTV licence fee and for the conclusion of multimillion grants to the public media, reports the Virtualnemedia portal.
Zdrojewski indicated that the rtv subscription should be liquidated.
Rtv subscription with doubts
– It is anachronistic, unjust, ineffective and brings rather dubious income erstwhile it comes to television. It must be remembered that all those who erstwhile recorded a radio or tv receiver are actually being punished. tv or radio is utilized by almost everyone, and fewer pay for it. Maintaining the subscription in its current form is unlikely. However, we should find another ways of financing to keep this passage of public media, which is treated as crucial and which should remain. We will return to a circumstantial but much more modest grant than the 1 proposed by the Law and Justice Government over fresh years and other, very modest but much more effective public media charges. However, this issue will be prejudged by the fresh government – he emphasized in his interview with the Virtual Media portal.
Other financing of public media
The fresh president of the parliament commission besides guaranteed that Polish tv (TVP) and Polish Radio would no longer be entitled to receive crucial compensation from the state budget. This year, public institutions received compensation of PLN 2.7 billion in bond form. It is worth noting that in the erstwhile year TVP recorded losses of PLN 50 million at revenues of about PLN 3.6 billion.
– We are full convinced that further debt should not continue. We will return to another way of financing public media, much more rational and cost-effective," said the fresh chief of the committee in a conversation with the portal.
Bogdan Zdrojewski expresses assurance in the liquidation of the National Media Council.
– This can be done legally, due to the fact that we have the expertise that the RMG is an unconstitutional entity, it acts illegally and has exercised certain powers that belong to the National Broadcasting Council. There's no uncertainty about it. Doubts are about the mode of ending this existence: whether to do so by recalling members or liquidating them by means of a bill with a threat that the president will veto it. As indicated by the portal, the RMG was established by PiS activities in 2016. From the very beginning, it has caused considerable controversy due to the powers conferred, which include the anticipation of cancelling and appointing boards and supervisory boards on TVP, Polish Radio and Polish Press Agency. Immediately after its creation, the Constitutional Court found it unconstitutional to deprive the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) of its function in the process of appointing and dismissing the authorities of TVP and PR.
