Donald Tusk claims that Jarosław Kaczyński loses control of Law and Justice overnight. The Prime Minister said on Friday in the Sejm that the actual leader of the organization became Grzegorz Braun, head of the Confederation of the Crown of Poland. It's an assessment of a political rival, but it rains in a minute of real tension inside the right.
Diagnosis from the Parliamentary Speaker
When asked by journalists about the fresh turmoil in Law and Justice, Donald Tusk did not cover satisfaction. "Jarosław Kaczyński loses control, day by day, over the PiS," the Prime Minister said. Right after that, he made a stronger thesis. In his opinion, it is Grzegorz Braun, not the president of the largest opposition party, who present marks the direction on the right side of the stage.
Tusk argued that many PiS politicians race the leader of the Confederation of the Crown of Poland. "The race with Braun about who will be more anti-Ukrainian, who will be more violent" – described this mechanism. He summarized the assessment that "the first violin starts playing people akin and very dangerous".
Background of the dispute
The Prime Minister's words were not in vain. The background is the tensions around the “Development Plus” association founded by Mateusz Morawiecki and the loud speeches by Przemysław Czarnek about the aid of Ukraine. Inside the PiS there is simply a dispute about how hard the organization is to put the substance of benefits for refugees and relations with Kiev. Braun, who worked on the outskirts of the parliamentary right for years, became a point of mention in this game.
Tusk diagnosis is convenient for the ruling camp. Showing the right as an environment taken over by radicals allows you to push the PiS into defensiveness and discourage the voters of the center. The Prime Minister does not review his own coalition, but describes the enemy's troubles. This is simply a classical procedure in which another people's disputes become material to build their own advantage.
Silence on the another side
Neither the PiS nor Grzegorz Braun referred straight to Prime Minister's words in relation to Friday's speech. Silence in specified situations can be read in 2 ways. To disregard the charge or to neglect to respond. The fact remains that Tusk himself considered Braun to be a real quarterback on the right, which, a year ago, would have sounded like an exaggeration. Whether it is simply a correct diagnosis or an effort to differentiate competitors, they will settle the next weeks inside the Law and Justice.
