Tusk's keeping his expectations low. For 60 1000 PLN of free money we will wait

In a Wednesday interview with TVN24 Prime Minister Donald Tusk referred, among others, to the increase in the benefit of 500 plus to 800 PLN. As he pointed out, in mid-2023 he advocated this solution.

I was Prime Minister from 1 January and from 1 January was 800 plus. And I drove – he said, rejecting allegations that the erstwhile government was more effective.

The Head of Government besides mentioned a draft law on assistance for people with disabilities, stressing that the implementation of payments for this intent is planned for 2027. He added that his government was liable for these commitments and recalled that 1 of the first decisions was to implement a citizens' initiative to increase support for people with disabilities and their guardians by PLN 2.5 thousand.

An Unfulfilled Promise

The Prime Minister besides referred to the issue of raising the amount of taxation free to PLN 60 thousand. As he explained, the task is under way, but it is presently not possible to implement it. Tusk stressed that despite pre-election announcements, the current condition of public finances – mostly burdened with defence spending – does not let for a fast implementation of this change.

I don't think that's possible by 2027. – he said.

He pointed out that Poland spends as much as 5% of its budget on arms, resulting from threats across the east border and the request to guarantee national security.

The Citizen Coalition announced an increase of the tax-free amount to PLN 60 1000 inactive during the electoral campaign, indicating this request as 1 of the key elements of its economical programme. This promise aimed at real financial relief for millions of taxpayers and improving the situation of the lowest earners.

Demolishing Government

The Prime Minister, referring to the announcement of Karol Nawrocki's legislative initiative, stated that erstwhile Nawrocki became president, he would most likely want to make it hard for the government.

He will most likely have any arguments – that is politics – but I will talk honestly what we do, what is possible and at what time. I'm truly going to try, due to the fact that I'm very attached to all the essential commitments I made before I became Prime Minister. And if it takes more time, I'll be honest, too. – explained the Prime Minister.

He stressed that he would not let the future president demolish the government politically. He besides recalled that, according to the Constitution, the Council of Ministers is conducting an interior and abroad policy of the country for which he, as Prime Minister, is responsible.
