Donald Tusk admitted at the start that he must mention to "a situation which upsets the full Polish public, that is, where is the erstwhile Minister of Justice Mr Ziobro and whether he will return to the country".
Let us add that politicians of the Law and Justice organization are under serious charges, including the management of an organized crime group. The Sejm received a motion to take his immunity and arrest. In fresh days, however, Ziobro was seen in Budapest. He met with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán there.
Tusk to Ziobry: you don't want to go into past as a "fuzzy" or "soft"
– I would like to address the Minister directly: I am convinced that you do not want to go into past as a "fowl" or "soft" and you will face independent justice in Poland," said the Prime Minister.
He did not hide that the allegations against the erstwhile head of MS are serious, but "the only way to explain these allegations is to proceed legally, in accordance with regulations." Tusk pointed out that escaping or seeking asylum, for example, would put Ziobra in a very bad light.
– I hope to see you here in Poland soon. Like you said, the honest have nothing to fear. It is our task – of doing this – that everyone, regardless of the scale of these alleged crimes, regardless of the allegations made by the prosecution, can number on a fair trial and the application of fair rules. I am convinced that everyone appreciates this," he added.
Finally, he admitted: "You are truly fortunate that present in Poland is ruled by a squad for which the regulation of law, the independency of the court, truly matters. It's easy to imagine what it would be like if we did what our predecessors did. It's easy to imagine the destiny of those who have specified serious accusations.
