On April 6, the Republican People's organization (CHP), Turkey's main opposition party, held an extraordinary legislature in Ankara. In 2024, it won the most votes nationwide in local elections (it presently has the support of about 30% of voters), thus posing a threat to the ruling Justice and improvement organization (AKP). The legislature re-elected the current chairman, Özgür Özel, by a crucial margin, as the only candidate.
