The military alliance does not mean the end of the rivalry of interviews. The German counterintelligence considered that Turkey, Berlin's formal ally in NATO, was conducting intelligence and influence activities in the national Republic. This is not only a problem of the interior safety of Germany, but besides an example of tensions that even membership of the same defence alliance cannot eliminate.
