Modernisation of M60 operated by the Turkish Land Forces (turn. Türk Kara Kuvvetleri) is carried out as part of the TİYK-M60A3 and TİYK-M60T projects. The first company runs Roketsan. The latter, in which Aselsan is the main contractor, aims to rise the M60T and M60TM wagons to a fresh standard and to become independent of abroad components, mainly Israeli. ‘TİYK’ is an abbreviation for ‘Tanklara İlave Yetenekler Kazandırılması’, in the free translation ‘giving additional opportunities to tanks’.
