On Wednesday, the Venezuelan Caribbean coast in the north of the country hit 2 strong earthquakes, causing extended demolition in Caracas and respective another regions. The first shock had a 7.2 magnitude; little than a minute later there was a stronger 7.5 magnitude shock, resulting in collapse of buildings, harm to infrastructure and the launch of a large-scale rescue action.
According to the AP agency, citing the words of Venezuelan president Delcy Rodriguez, at least 164 people were confirmed dead and 971 injured.
Rescue teams search for survivors while the region continues to haunt secondary shocks.
According to the American Geological Service (USGS), the epicentre was located off the northern coast of Venezuela, close the town of Morón.
Shocks were felt in a crucial area of the country, as well as in neighboring Colombia and respective Caribbean islands. More than 20 second shocks have been reported and the authorities have called on residents to stay vigilant.
The government declared a national emergency and directed the armed forces, civilian defence units and emergency services to action. Another earthquake that struck the northeastern part of the country in 1997 claimed at least 81 fatalities.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reported that American search and rescue teams from Fairfax County, Virginia and Los Angeles had already been directed to Venezuela to aid remove the effects of 2 earthquakes.

Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were abducted during a rally of American commandos in Caracas in early January, and were subsequently brought to court in Manhattan for charges of drug trafficking and illegal possession of weapons. They both denied their alleged actions and did not plead guilty.
The Venezuelan government condemned this operation, calling it an illegal act of aggression and a violation of the country's sovereignty, and demanded the immediate release of Maduro and Flores.
