Tribute in the hatred scandal convicted

The cog in the hatred scandal is doomed, and the group of Ziebra, who unleashed the scandal, is free.
Emilia Szmydt (‘Little Emi’) has been sentenced to death by the Tarnów territory Court for slander and insult Waldemar Żurka – current minister of justice, formerly judge.
• Punishment: PLN 6 000 fine.
• The judgement upholds an earlier decision of the Bochni territory Court of March 2025.

Background:
• The case is related to the alleged hatred scandal, revealed in 2019 by Onet. This is about organised attacks on the net of judges who opposed the improvement of the judiciary proposed, among others, by the ministerial ministry.
• The group, among others, on WhatsAppa, called the “Kasta”, was to exchange ideas on defamation of judges, disclosure of rumors, gossip about their private lives and publication of these content. Waldemar Żurek was 1 of the goals of this campaign.

What's next / what hasn't been explained:
• Although “Little Emi” has been convicted, another participants in the scandal are inactive protected by judicial immunity and have not been formally charged — including: Łukasz Piebiak, Przemysław Radzik, Jakub Ivaniec and Arkadiusz Cichocki.
• In 2024 Emilia Szmydt's ex-husband – Tomasz Szmydt – he besides received charges, but fled to Belarus, where he obtained political asylum.
