U.S. president Donald Trump estimated on Thursday that his telephone conversation with China's leader Xi Jinping was "very good". He informed that the 2 interviewors had invited each another to visit, and teams from the US and China are about to meet again to discuss trade issues. According to him, trade was almost the only subject of the conversation.

"I just finished a very good telephone conversation with China's president Xi. I have discussed any of the complexities of our late concluded and agreed trade agreement. The conversation lasted about an hr and a half and ended with a very affirmative consequence for both countries. There should no longer be any questions about the complexity (issues related to) of uncommon earth products. Our teams will shortly meet at a place to be established" - Trump wrote on his fact Social portal. As he added, Xi invited him to visit China, and he reciprocated with his own invitation.

"This is something that both of us eagerly (we want to) do as presidents of 2 large Nations. The conversation focused almost exclusively on TRADE. Nothing was discussed about Russia/Ukraine or Iran. We will inform the media about the agenda and place of the upcoming meeting" - added Trump.

Case of uncommon earth metals

The uncommon earths case mentioned in Trump's entry was at the heart of the current trade dispute with the US and China. Beijing, which controls a large part of the supply and processing chains of these materials, introduced additional restrictions on exports of the 7 minerals needed in the production of advanced electronics in consequence to US duties on Chinese goods.

Despite the temporary truce in the commercial war between the 2 powers, these restrictions have remained in force, which already causes difficulties for many American companies. This has led to irritation by the president of the United States and accusations of breaking a temporary agreement with China. According to the Axios portal, this fact was besides the reason for the U.S. abrupt decision to cancel the visas of many Chinese students in the US.

It is not clear what Trump's words on "rare earth products" mean, but the president announced that Washington would be represented by Finance Minister Scott Bessent and U.S. Trade typical Jamieson Greer in the forthcoming talks of the delegation. They besides participated in the May negotiations in Geneva, which led to a common simplification of duties from 145 to 35% on Chinese products and from 125 to 10% on US goods.

Beijing message

Contrary to Trump's words about the fact that Thursday's talk by the leaders of the powers was devoted almost exclusively to commercial issues, Beijing stated in its communication that Taiwan was besides raised.

According to the Chinese Ministry of abroad Affairs Xi called for the US to "carefully approach Taiwan's issue", informing against dragging both countries into a "dangerous confrontation" by "separatists seeking Taiwan's independence".
