"We cannot go without Greenland, we must have it," said Donald Trump. The president of the United States assessed that Denmark and the European Union understood this, but added that "if they do not understand, we will gotta explain to them." On Friday, the vice president of the United States, J.D. Vance, visited Greenland and made a firm statement.

Trump referred to the Friday visit of Vice president J.D. Vance to Pituffik Base in Greenland. erstwhile asked at the Oval Office if the U.S. intends to increase military presence on the island, Trump did not answer directly, but reiterated that America needs Greenland "for global security".

"We get along very well with Greenland, we get along very well with Denmark. We've always had a good relation with Denmark, they do quite a few business in the United States. We don't do much there, but they do quite a few business in the United States, and I think everyone wants it all to go well," Trump said.

"It's not a question of whether I think we can do without her. We can't.. If you look at Greenland now, if you look at the waterways, you have everywhere Chinese and Russian shipsand we can't do anything about it, we can't trust on Denmark or anyone else to deal with it. And we're not talking about peace for the United States. We're talking about planet peace.", stated the President.

He assessed that Denmark and the European Union understood this, but added that "if they don't understand, we'll gotta explain to them".

US Vice president in Greenland

U.S. Vice president on Friday during a gathering with American soldiers at the Pituffik military space base in Greenland criticized the government in Copenhagen. "Denmark has not given Greenland a appropriate precedence and "has not done a good job" - stated. Vance as a threat indicated interest in this area of Russia and China.

"Grenland is underinvested by Denmark in safety architecture. It just has to change. This is simply a United States policy to change that," Vance stated.

"I think It would be much better if you were under the United States safety umbrella., than (the others) under the umbrella of the safety of Denmark" - assessed J.D. Vance.

Denmark’s response

"Denmark is simply a good and strong ally for all NATO members (...). For many years we stood side by side with the Americans in very hard situations, that's why The vice president should not be so unfair to Denmark" - the Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen wrote in a statement.

Frederiksen admitted to Vance that the safety of the Arctic must be given priority. She recalled that her government had begun efforts for increased surveillance in Greenland through investments in fresh ships, long-range drones and satellite systems.

"Security in the Arctic is the concern of NATO and all allies in the region. We are ready, day and night, to cooperate with Americans" - she noted. She added that cooperation must take place on "international principles".

In turn, Danish abroad Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen assessed that Vance's criticism was inappropriate. "Perhaps Americans should look at themselves in the mirror, after the fall of the Berlin Wall they focused more on the fight against terrorism" - he stressed.

The Danish military participated in global missions in Afghanistan and Iraq, where it supported US soldiers.
