During peace talks in Geneva, a 28-point plan by Donald Trump was presented to end Russia's war with Ukraine. However, the document, compared to Wilson's celebrated "14 points", raises many controversy, from the issue of Ukrainian sovereignty to restrictions on NATO expansion to Russia's reintegration into the planet economy. There are besides doubts about the function of advisors specified as Steve Whitkoff and questions about the authorship of the plan itself.
Sovereignty and NATO
The first points of the plan supply for confirmation of Ukrainian sovereignty and the signing of a non-aggression pact. However, further proposals concerning NATO have already sparked disputes – they originally assumed that there was no further expansion of the alliance, and were later modified so that decisions required unanimity of members. Humanity and Amnesty
The plan provides for the exchange of prisoners “all for all” and the return of Ukrainian children exported to Russia. At the same time, the first version assumed full amnesty for the parties to the conflict – what happened to criticism, besides in Ukraine itself, where it was feared to usage this mechanics to cover up corruption scandals.
Poland and Europe
Poland was not invited to talks in Geneva, which the commentators explain the interior co-habitation and weakening of Warsaw's function as “the advocate of Ukraine”. The European counter-proposal to Trump's plan is more realistic but little likely to be accepted by Russia.
