However, this was not done by China, which was subject to duties of a full of 104 percent.
"Since China did not revoke its retaliatory duties, at midnight from Tuesday to Wednesday (6 Wednesday in Poland) a full of 104 % work on goods from China will apply," said White home spokeswoman Karolina Leavitt, quoted by Fox Business.
"When customs enter into force, China will see an additional 104 percent added to imports. China failed to meet the deadline set by president Trump until noon east Time to remove retaliatory tariffs," wrote Fox Business reporter Edward Lawrence on platform X, citing White home spokesperson.
Leavitt thus confirmed that Trump intends to implement his Monday threat erstwhile he threatened to impose an additional 50 percent work on imports from China if Beijing does not retreat from its 34 percent retaliatory duties announced on Friday, which are due to enter into force on Thursday.
Trump had already imposed a 20% work on Chinese goods in February, and last Wednesday announced the imposition of an additional 34 % tariff rate to establish ‘reciprocity’ in trade relations. After Beijing announced the same retaliation, the president of the United States announced another 50 percent, which together gives a 104 percent rate for almost all products imported from China.
Additional duties on China, as well as on 56 another countries with which the US has a trade deficit, will enter into force on Wednesday at midnight east American time (at 6 a.m. in Poland). Poland as part of the European Union will besides be among the affected countries. By August this year, the rate of work for EU countries will be 10%, but if Brussels does not negotiate, it will be 20% in August.
