In June 2024, 2 young men decided to “beautify” the interior of 1 of the trams of line 7 in Szczecin. utilizing black, hard-wearing pens, they destroyed walls, ceilings, windows, shelf and the level of the wagon. Finally, they immortalized their “work” with a commemorative picture.
Judicial judgment: six months of community service and compensation
The perpetrators were rapidly identified by the surveillance footage in the media. Following a voluntary application to the police, the court issued a warrant in which:
- Restriction of freedom for six months: Both men were obliged to execute unpaid, controlled work for social purposes 20 hours a month.
- Compensation of PLN 2 000: The perpetrators are to jointly repair the harm caused by paying this amount to the Szczecin Trams.
- Written Apology: They were obliged to make an authoritative apology to the company Tramwaje Szczecińskie.
Response of the perpetrators: a sincere apology and a promise of improvement
In their apologies, the vandals acknowledged that their actions were "absolutely unacceptable" and "have no justification." They besides promised that this would not happen again.
The increasing problem of vandalism in public transport
The incidental in the tram line 7 is not isolated. In fresh years there has been an increase in vandalism in public transport vehicles in Szczecin. In 2025, about 30 wrecked wagons, mainly by painting black pens. The cost of removing specified harm is from 1 500 to 4 000 PLN on 1 vehicle.
In the face of an expanding problem, representatives of Szczeciński Trams call for greater vigilance and work on the part of passengers. Local community cooperation is crucial in eliminating vandalism and in ensuring the common good of urban communication.
The case of the demolition of tram line 7 in Szczecin shows that vandalism does not stay unpunished. The judicial consequences, specified as social work, compensation and apology, are intended not only to punish perpetrators but besides to deter possible followers. However, a real change requires the engagement of the full community in protecting public property.
