Tram vandals in Szczecin: The court sentences severe punishment for destruction

In June 2024, 2 young men decided to “beautify” the interior of 1 of the trams of line 7 in Szczecin. utilizing black, hard-wearing pens, they destroyed walls, ceilings, windows, shelf and the level of the wagon. Finally, they immortalized their “work” with a commemorative picture.

Judicial judgment: six months of community service and compensation

The perpetrators were rapidly identified by the surveillance footage in the media. Following a voluntary application to the police, the court issued a warrant in which:

• Restriction of freedom for six months: Both men were obliged to execute unpaid, controlled work for social purposes 20 hours a month.
• Compensation of PLN 2 000: The perpetrators are to jointly repair the harm caused by paying this amount to the Szczecin Trams.
• Written Apology: They were obliged to make an authoritative apology to the company Tramwaje Szczecińskie.

Response of the perpetrators: a sincere apology and a promise of improvement

In their apologies, the vandals acknowledged that their actions were "absolutely unacceptable" and "have no justification." They besides promised that this would not happen again.

The increasing problem of vandalism in public transport
