Japanese company TOHO Poland, belonging to the TOHO Industrial Co. group, Ltd., announced the closure of its plant in Radom. This decision means collective redundancies affecting 115 workers. The reason for the closure of the plant is macroeconomic difficulties, including rising energy and natural materials prices, falling orders and expanding operating costs.
TOHO Poland, specialized in manufacturing ball bearing parts, has operated in Radom since 2016. The plant, located in the Tarnobrzeg peculiar economical Zone, initially employed about 40 people, and at the highest of the minute – even 170. However, since the autumn of last year the company has gradually extinguished operations, and the final closure of the plant is planned for the 3rd 4th of 2025.
In its authoritative communication, the company stressed that the liquidation decision was due to a ‘growing macroeconomic situation for respective years’. The increase in energy and natural materials prices, the fall in orders and the expanding operating costs made the plant unprofitable.
Support for redundant workers
TOHO Poland declares that the redundant workers will receive additional financial compensation beyond those provided for by Polish law. The company besides provides professional support in seeking fresh jobs. These measures are intended to mitigate the effects of redundancies and aid workers decision smoothly to the labour market.
Radom labour marketplace under pressure
The closure of TOHO Poland is another blow to the Radom labour market. In 2024, 5 another employers from the region reported their intention to carry out collective redundancies resulting in 276 occupation losses. Among them were companies specified as:
- SOLBIKA Spółka z o.o. – 51 redundancies,
- B&M CLOTHING COMPANY Spółka z o.o. – 122 redundancies,
- ALTHA POWER METALLURGY Spółka z o.o. – 33 redundancies,
- ‘AIS WSI EUROPE’ Company z o.o. – 56 redundancies,
- “MAGAR” Spółka z o.o. – 14 redundancies.
In total, nearly a 1000 people lost their jobs in the territory of the Regional Labour Office in Radom in 2024. Nevertheless, the unemployment rate in the region has somewhat decreased. At the end of December 2024, there were somewhat more than 8,000 unemployed registered in Radom and 7.3 1000 in Radom County.
Unemployment in Mazowieckie Voivodeship
According to the data of the Central Statistical Office, the highest unemployment in Mazowieckie voivodship occurs in the powiat szydlowice (23.3%) and Przyspodsiskie (17.9%). In Radom County, the unemployment rate is 16.1 percent. In comparison, unemployment in Warsaw reaches only 1.4 percent, and in Warsaw territory – 1.6 percent.
