Today the novena begins behind Poland behind the intercession of St.Andrew Bobola!
date:07 May 2025 Editor: Anna
On 16 May, 2 days before the presidential election, the ceremony of St Andrew Bobola, the patron of Poland, is celebrated. The priest did. Joseph Niżnik, curator of the Holy Sanctuary in Strachocin, prepared a novena due to this large martyr. The White Raven publication published the full text of the novena, the first day of which falls on Wednesday 7 May – it is besides the day of the beginning of the conclave after the death of Pope Francis
It is worth asking for the intercession of St.Andrew Bobola, who, as he said, is the patron of Poland from God's broadcast.

Day I
Prayer for the Faithfulness of the Nation (Christian – 966)
Then Jesus came from Galilee to Jordan to John to be baptized from him... erstwhile Jesus was baptized, he came out of the water. Behold, the heavens have opened to him, and he has seen the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming upon him. And the voice from heaven said, «This is my beloved Son, in whom I am pleased» (Mt 3:13-17).
The baptism of John in Jordan was a sign of conversion. The sinless Jesus did not request it. He accepted John’s washing to set an example that 1 should enter the way of fighting evil. With the sound of heaven's words, This is my beloved Son, confirming his divine identity, he began in the power of the Spirit who descended upon him his public activity.
The Polish nation, receiving baptism in 966, entered into God's plan of salvation. He entered the community of Christian nations and is inactive in it today. He never, as a whole, disobeyed Catholic faith, and Poles inactive compose a beautiful communicative of the love of Christ's Church.
Today, erstwhile many nations who have boasted of the Christian character for centuries are ashamed of their roots, we ask you, God, to proceed in the religion of our forefathers.
Let us pray: Saint Andrew Bobolo! All your life you have grown in the grace of religion that your parents have given you. religion helped you to endure your life’s difficulties and taught you to be faithful to God, who is rich in mercy. Support us so that the religion given to us by our ancestors will bear fruit in us and aid us to renew what we anticipate in Poland, Europe and the world. aid us to stay faithful to the inspirations of the Holy Spirit, so that we can renew the face of the earth, the Polish land. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Day II
Prayer for Love for Mary (Image of Our woman of Czestochowa – 1382)
Next to the cross of Jesus were his parent and his mother's sister, Mary, wife of Kleofas, and Mary Magdalene. So erstwhile Jesus saw the parent and the disciple whom he loved standing next to her, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold your son”. Then he said to the disciple, «Here is your mother». And from that hr the disciple took her home (Jn 19:25-27).
At Golgotha, Mary survived her second proclamation. This time God himself incarnate, dying on the cross, turns to her, announcing her fresh motherhood. The Immaculate female accepts God’s will with religion and humility. As a mother, she is to accompany all human generations in their spiritual conflict to preserve the fruits of her Son’s work.
Mary spoke to our nation through her presence in the sign of the image on Jasna Góra. This sanctuary is an expression of her love for Poland and our nation. erstwhile she appeared in Naples in 1608, she said: "I have loved this kingdom very much, and I intend large things for him, due to the fact that the peculiar love for me burns his sons.
Let us pray: Saint Andrew Bobolo! Your parents gave you to God in the Sacrament of Baptism and Confirmation. You gave yourself to Mary for life at Braniewo school. We ask you, our Patron, to follow your example with the power of the Immaculate One, to sanctify ourselves as children of God. After all, the Father chose us before the foundation of the planet to be holy and immaculate, like Jesus, our Lord and Brother, the only-born boy of the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen.
Day III
Prayer for Poland to Fulfill God’s Will (Polish Mission to Christianity)
But you are a chosen tribe, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people [God] destined to proclaim the works of the might of him who called you out of darkness into his unusual light, you who were non-people, and now you are a people of God, who have not received mercy, and now as those who have received mercy (1 Pet. 2:9-10).
The chosen tribe in the planet are Christians who, through baptism, unite into 1 household of God's children and attest that Jesus is their Lord.
But the chosen nation can besides be considered a Polish nation, which, due to its geographical location, had to defend not only its own state, but besides Catholic religion and the principles of life based on it. Our country began to be given the name Antemurale christianitatis – The Foreground of Christianity, not without reason. Poland was on the defender of Christian Europe, an indispensable example of which is the Vienna rescue of 1683.
Prayer: God, ruler of nations, You have brought the Polish people into your fold and appointed him on earth an honorable function in defending Christianity. Let him proceed to defend his own religion against all dangers. May Poland always be faithful to the face of Christianity. History, as a witness of the times, the light of fact and the teacher of life, seems to indicate that God intended this function for the Polish nation. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Day IV
Prayer for designation in Saint Andrew's main patron (A gift from God to the Homeland – 1657)
The Lord addressed Jonah with these words, «Rise up, go to Nineveh and rebuke her, for her iniquity has arrived before me». And Jonah rose up to flee from the Lord. He found a ship and boarded it to go far from the Lord. But the Lord sent a violent wind to the sea, and there was a large storm in the sea, so that the ship was threatened with destruction. So the sailors got scared. And they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah. «Take me and throw me into the sea, and the waters will cease to break against you due to the fact that I know that due to me specified a large storm has arisen against you». And they threw him into the sea, and it stopped growing... The Lord sent a large fish to swallow Jonah. And Jonah was in the bowels of the fish 3 days and 3 nights. From the insides of the fish, Jonah prayed to his Lord God. The Lord ordered the fish and threw Jonah to land. The Lord spoke to Jonah for the second time with these words: «Rise up, go to Nineveh, the large city, and proclaim to her the admonition which I command you». Jonah got up and went to Nineveh, as the Lord said (John 1-3).
The miraculous circumstances of Jonah’s appearance in Nineveh were needed by the inhabitants to accept the prophet’s words in religion and to take conversion and repentance.
The cult of St. Andrew Bobola in the Church besides has to do with wonder. Revelations after his death in Pinsk, Vilnius and Fears let him to see God's messenger for our nation and Homeland. After all, it comes erstwhile Poland is in danger and is willing to supply help, but it depends on accepting it with faith. We know that erstwhile he was listened to, Poland experienced God's care.
Today Poles should besides believe that with the aid of Saint Andrew they will save Poland and religion in the nation. This religion should be borne out by prayer to God.
Prayer: Saint Andrew Bobolo! We thank the Almighty for giving us all you as the large Patron of Poland. With your patronage you have joined the promise of the rebirth of your homeland after years of captivity. Therefore, with assurance we entrust you with all hard political, social, economical matters. You yourself remind us that the change through prayer has a beginning in the heart of the 1 praying, in my individual life. Therefore, we ask you with all our heart, our Patron, to strengthen us in the renewal of the life in harmony with the Gospel, to rejoice in the Good News of Jesus, yours and our Lord, who loved us with the Father and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen.
Day V
Prayer of thanks for the gifts of the Holy Spirit (Constitution – 1791)
Israel, perceive to the laws and commandments that I teach you to live... You will not add anything to what I command you, nor will you take any of it, keeping the commandments of Yahweh your God, which I place upon you. defender them and obey them, for they are your wisdom and cognition in the sight of the nations, which, erstwhile they hear of these laws, will say, «Surely this large nation is simply a wise and discreet people» (Deut. 4:1-8).
God gave the chosen nation the commandment which would make him a wise and discreet people. The Bible tells us that the nation’s keeping of the commandments brought him blessing and care. Jesus kept his commandments and taught his disciples to realize them. Learn from me... However, not everyone took to heart what God said, and then social and national problems arose.
Poland experienced this in the 18th century. deficiency of common respect, especially for peasants, insensitivity to mediocre and needy, contempt for people from lower spheres led Poland to fall.
But there were Poles who felt liable for the destiny of the Homeland and at the Four-Year Sejm passed the Constitution on 3 May 1791. On the basis of this, among another things, liberal veto, confederations and free election were abolished. The Constitution of 3 May was in force only for 14 months and was a large accomplishment of the Polish people, who wanted to keep state independency and guarantee the economical and political improvement of the country.
Prayer: Saint Andrew Bobolo! Your example teaches us that we are constantly to grow in the attitude of the disciples of Jesus Christ. By imitating him, you made advancement in wisdom and grace. We ask you, as our Patron, to aid our nation's cognition to make Poles a wise nation that opens its heart to God's imagination of the planet and people. Teach us to find aid through persistent prayer to the Father through Jesus in the light of the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen.
Day VI
Apology for Sins (Zabory – 1795-1918)
U Jesus was gathered together by the Pharisees and respective scribes who came from Jerusalem. And they saw that any of his disciples were eating unclean, that is, not washed with their hands. So the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, "Why do your disciples not follow the tradition of elders, but eat unclean hands?" He said to them: “The prophet Isaiah rightly said of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people worships me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. But he worships me in vain, teaching the principles of men. You have failed the commandment of God, and you have adhered to the human tradition...». And he said to them, «You are evading God’s commandment smoothly to preserve your tradition. And you endure the word of God due to your tradition which you have given yourselves» (Mk 7:1-13).
The chosen nation received peculiar favors from God, yet he did not always stay faithful to God. The same happens in our nation. The nation experienced so much good from God, yet we were not faithful to God. Even the unique gifts of the patronage of Mary Queen of Poland and St.Andrew Bobola do not make the expected impression on Poles.
Many Poles marginalize God's presence and religion in Him. Many perceive more to what people say than God does. Many take action to make Poland like those nations who have already abandoned their religion in God. This is done in a deficiency of respect for unborn life, an expanding number of divorces, a failure of good example in families for children and young people, divisions in the nation, the spread of drunkenness and promulgation.
In the past, specified behaviour led Poland to partition. And to what will they lead Poland to the sins which the nation commits today?
Pray: Saint Andrew, Patrons of hard times! You encouraged Poles in times of all danger. We take care of you. aid us to endure among all individual and social experiences. Grant us the grace of God's peace and unity, so that we may discern and justice the interests of the people in the light of Christ's Gospel. Give us the courage to act so that we do not stay helpless against evil that continues. May God’s joy fill us erstwhile we conquer, and may hope accompany us erstwhile we fail. Saint Andrew Bobolo, intercede for us with the Lord. Amen.
Day VII
Thank you for your independency (1918)
When the time of my grace comes, I will hear you, on the day of salvation I will come to aid you. And I formed you, and made a covenant for the people, to renew the land, to separate the desolate inheritance, to say to the prisoners, Go distant into freedom! Sound the wedding, heavens! Rejoice, earth! Mountain, blast with a cheery cry! For the LORD comforted his people, and took pity on his mediocre (Isa 49:1-26).
When Poland was under the partitions, Fr Andrzej Bobola in Vilnius in 1819 revealed himself and gave Fr Alojze Korzenewski, a Dominican: erstwhile the large war ended, you will regain your independence. These words awakened the nation’s desire for freedom and hope for the aid of the Jesuit Martyr in the fight against the invaders.
The November Uprising in 1830 broke out on the day of his birth. erstwhile the defeat ended, a fresh hope poured beatification into the hearts of Poles in 1853. It was followed by another uprising, this time January in 1863. And another failure. Mary, appearing in Gietrzwald in 1877, recalled that independency must be begged by God through prayer and holiness of life.
Recovered independency after 123 years of captivity is an event which includes the Church in Poland. There are bells ringing in the churches, and people in the temples are singing Te Deum. God again showed the planet how crucial this nation is in His plan of salvation and how he watches over its history. And so it will be whenever the nation does not turn distant from God.
Let us pray: God, who, until late forgotten Poland, resurrected the miracle of your omnipotence, turn to the mercy of your servant, St. Andrew Bobola, over our Homeland and reverse its dangers. Inspire the wisdom of its rulers and representatives, the discipline and valour of its defenders, the agreement and conscientiousness in fulfilling the duties of its citizens. Give her priests full of God's spirit and zealous for the souls of salvation. Strengthen the spirit of religion and purity of customs. Exterminate all evil. Let parents and teachers in God’s fear rise children and youths, training them to obey and work, and protecting them from corruption. May all be filled with the spirit of self-sacrifice and self-sacrifice toward the Church and Homeland, the spirit of common kindness and forgiveness. Just as 1 God, so 1 faith, hope and love strengthen our hearts! Amen.
Day VIII
Queen and woman (The Miracle of the Vistula – 1920)
A large sign appeared in the sky: A female clothed with the sun and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a wreath of 12 stars. And she's pregnant. And he cries out in pain and in labor. And another sign appeared in heaven: Behold, a large dragon of the colors of fire, having 7 heads and 10 horns—and upon his heads 7 diadems. And the Dragon stood before the female to give birth, so that, erstwhile she gives birth, she might devour her child. And she bore the Son--a man who will feed all nations with an iron rod. And her kid was taken to God and to His throne. And the female fled into the wilderness, where there is simply a place prepared by God to be fed there (Ap 21.1-20).
The nation enjoyed its regained independency only 2 years. The Bolsheviks wanted to deprive Poles of freedom and sovereignty. In consequence to their actions, the Polish Episcopate, on July 27, 1920, in Jasna Góra sanctuary, made an act of entrustment of the nation and country to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and asked for aid to Our Lady, Queen of Poland. Since 7 August, erstwhile the situation on the front became increasingly dramatic, the large Novena of Repentance continued. Thousands of pilgrims lay a cross below the Jasna Góra summit, asking the Black Madonna to save their homeland.
In the context of the approaching front to the capital of the metropolitan city of Warsaw, Cardinal Aleksander Kakowski ordered the novena from 6 to 15 August in all churches of Warsaw. On the 3rd day, the novena streets of the capital walked by 100,000 faithful in the procession with the relics of the Blessed. Andrzej Bobola and Blessed Władysław from Gielniów, raising requests for rescue for Poland. On the last day of the novena – on August 15, 1920 – there was a breakthrough and the Bolshevik troops were detained in the suburbs of Warsaw close Radzymin, and the next day defeated.
The bishops saw in this a miracle which attributed to the intercession of Blessed Andrew. They addressed Pope Benedict XV with a request for the canonization of Father Bobola, and Józef Piłsudski wrote a letter, asking that Polish Martyr be declared patron of Poland.
Let us pray: Blessed Virgin Mary, we extend to You, parent of Love, the pleasurable hands, that in the hard country of our request you may come to our aid. Cast distant the enemy from the borders of our homeland, return to the country our desired peace, order and order, the grain of discord from our hearts, cleanse our souls of sins and vices, that we may praise from the enemies of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
Day IX
Prayer for the Care of Poland and the Nation (Holy and Blessed)
Then I saw, and behold, a large crowd which no 1 could number, of all nation and of all generations, peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They are clothed in white robes, and in their hand palms. And with a loud voice they cry, «Salvation with our God, seated on the throne and with the Lamb». And all the angels stood around the throne and the Elders, and the 4 animals, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God, saying, «Amen. Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and power to our God forever and ever! Amen» (App 7.9-12).
Among the many crowds standing before the Lamb, there are besides Poles who served Jesus during their earthly life, who persisted in religion to the end and gave a beautiful evidence to the love of the Church. Among them are martyrs. From Benedict, John, Matthew, Isaac and Krystyn to Blessed George Popieluszko. From 1003 until 1984 Christians in Poland gave their lives for faithfulness to the Catholic identity of the nation. Their names are known from the catalogue of saints and blessed, but even more are unknown to us.
The crucial thing is that the Polish nation never embezzled Christ, and Polish families raised children in a Catholic spirit. The Blessed Ulmów household of Podkarpacie is this eloquent example. Though Catholic parents knew that they and their children were threatened with death for accepting Jews into their home, they did not refuse to aid them.
Thanks to specified education, fresh hosts of disciples of Christ came out of Polish families. Don't they confirm that? Michał Tomaszek and Blessed Zbigniew Strałkowski, who were abducted and brutally murdered on August 9, 1991 in Peru?
As a nation we should be grateful that the past of our nation is written by Poles for whom Christ was the most crucial in life. The saints and blessed of our nation are our pride and hope for the better tomorrow.
Let us pray: Saint Andrew Bobolo! We call you in trusting prayer as our Patron. May God’s joy fill us erstwhile we win or fail. Saint Andrew Bobolo, intercede for us with our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns in the unity of the Holy Spirit for all centuries. Amen.
