People asking for donations on the street pretend to be beggars, and people walking in dumpsters are “illegal participants of recycling” – so was Cuba's Labour Minister Marta Elena Feito-Cabrera assessed the poorest countrymen.
The politician shared her thoughts during the session of Parliament. She felt that there was no phenomenon of begging in Cuba – people who collect donations, beggars simply pretend to be willing to gain “easy money”. On the another hand, people who search dumpster containers do not do this due to the bad material situation – they are “illegal participants in recycling”.
The minister's words provoked a wave of outrage – it was noted that the minister was detached from reality. Eventually, the politician resigned.
