November 11th has a peculiar meaning in the Polish calendar of national holidays. We celebrate National independency Day, which commemorates Poland regaining independency after 123 years of partition. After the turbulent events of the 18th and 19th centuries, erstwhile Poland was divided between Russia, Prussia and Austria, in 1918 it was possible to regain sovereignty. This day has become a symbol of the courage and determination of Poles in the fight for freedom and their own national identity.
